Area Info

This historical suburb was the original home-site of George Rex, the Founder of Knysna. He and his family settled on the eastern shore of the lagoon and, when they later moved further afield, their old farm became affectionately known as “Old Place”. Due to changes in Knysna’s layout, this area has been divided into Upper and Lower Old Place. “Upper” is situated on the gently sloping hillside overlooking the lagoon, and “Lower” lies on the more level ground closer to the lagoon edge. Both areas are conveniently situated close to the town centre.
